Good afternoon all....
Today was the Salute to Vasona's Great Blue Heron and the herons put on
quite a show for us. Chicks were seen by all who looked through the
volunteers scopes (a million thanks to the volunteers for braving the cold and
wind today)...we had ten scopes going and people were just in awe of the colony
(we were so busy at times there were even people waiting to get a glimpse
through the scope). There is great interest in the birds and it was a true
pleasure to see others enjoy the Great Blues.
The best sighting today was a pair of OSPREY! I have had the female
at Okapond and the male at Vasona and visa versa but never flying over our head
together (and calling)...everyone was quite thrilled....Has anyone spotted the
pair together at Vasona and or Oka/Campbell Ponds?
Also, Richard Casserly had his scope focused on one of the resident
Red-shouldered Hawks...many were excited to see a hawk for the first
time....they are nesting again behind the Ranger's Station.
Thanks again to all the volunteers, Juliana Chow from SFBBO and all those
who stopped by to make this another successful GBHE Day!
My best regards,
Linda Sullivan
