I spent the morning at Palo Alto Baylands yesterday, arriving at
7:40AM. I expected nesting avocets, stilts, night-herons and egrets.
I got all those - no hatchlings from any of them yet. Avocets and
stilts tolerate each other's close presence in Harriet Mundy Marsh.
There are maybe 15 to 20 snowy egrets roosting by the duck pond,
compared with the 50 or so *breeding pairs* nesting there in 2004.
Maybe half were in scarlet breeding lores yesterday.
What I did see was a hummingbird mom feeding her nestlings. Didn't
want to disturb the mother, so I only photographed one feeding
