Hi all,
Stopped by Byxbee Park, Palo Alto Baylands, on the way home tonight. I
reached the top of Byxbee hills about 5:30pm.
Between about 5:35 and 5:45pm I saw 2 Short-eared Owls. They interacted for
a brief period of time, one apparently chasing the other way. Then both
disappeared. While interacting they turned sideways, flew up and down so
you could see the underside of their wings and bodies, too.
Other birds: 5 Cackling Geese among many Canadas, 2 of which were huge;
White-tailed Kite and I heard a few American Pipits flying down as I was on
the way up. At least I am pretty sure that is what I heard. Clapper Rails
calling greeted me as I walked back down.
There was a stunning sunset during all this - worth the walk!
