Folks:
I stopped by Ed Levin CP in the early afternoon, 1/29/07, and visited
the row of "tamarisks" along Calaveras Road. I eventually played
hide-an-seek with the 1st-winter male YELLOW-BILLED SAPSUCKER (he
won). A Red-breasted Sapsucker was also enjoying this game as well
(he also won). Mike Mammoser referred to the "tamarisks" as
Australian pines (casuarina) and I think he's right. If any of the
local botanists with a minor in birding want to visit this row of
trees and straighten us out, we will all be the wiser.
