I walked along the John Nicholas Trail off Black Road into Sanborn County Park today, 16 Jan 07. A PILEATED WOODPECKER was calling upslope from the trail about halfway out to the reservoir. I had 5 HAIRY WOODPECKERS along the way, as well as a decent look at a WINTER WREN. The frozen-over reservoir was completely devoid of any birds except a GREAT BLUE HERON perching on a stub sticking out of the ice.
