All,
Yesterday (2/20) Frank Vanslager and I had a first winter GLAUCOUS GULL in
the Coyote Creek Field Station "Waterbird Pond." Later we had another on
the first island in Salt Pond A16 and a third (first or second year) GLCU
swimming just north of the second island. I know that Mike Mammoser has,
with some effort, found at least five GLGUs in the immediate area of
Alviso. There seems to be little question that this has been an
extraordinary year for GLGUs and anyone wishing to should get great
views of this species at the Environmental Education Center, Salt Pond A16,
in Alviso, just look for the big white gulls with white primaries and a pink
bill with a well defined black tip..
Take care,
