[SBB] Savannah's at Christmas Hill Park

Hi!

Today at Christmas Hill Park, there was a flock of about 25 Savannah Sparrows.  For those of you who think Savannah’s don’t flock, they flock during winter prior to nesting.  I remember one Christmas count where Emelie Curtis and I found a flock of about 60 in Morgan Hill.  Both flocks had no specimens that had yellow lores which makes me wonder whether the yellow lores are a sign of maturity and perhaps these large winter flocks are primarily composed of immature birds.  Does anyone know more?  Also spotted were Western Bluebird and Hutton’s Vireo along with the more usual suspects.  Take care,

Jean

P.S.  Does anyone recommend a good upper-end digital camera?  I’m particularly interested in long-lasting re-chargeable battery capability.  Thanks!
