Late this morning, 13 Feb 07, I had 2 second cycle GLAUCOUS GULLS on the first island at the EEC in Alviso. These birds differed from typical first cycle birds by having a small pale tip to the bill, a paling eye (though not as bright as on an adult), and some pale gray feathering in the scapulars. This brings to 7 the number of individuals I've seen at this location this year.
At Ogier Ponds I checked through the gulls on the second pond north of the entrance. Two MEW GULLS (a first and a second cycle bird) were notable. An adult SHARP-SHINNED HAWK circled overhead.
