On Thursday, 5 Apr 07, I visited Sanborn County Park at the Black Rd trailhead. There was quite a flock of TOWNSENDS WARBLERS here, with 6-8 of them singing continuously and deafeningly. Along the trail into Lake Ranch Reservoir I had CASSINS VIREOS, WARBLING VIREOS, and WILSONS WARBLERS singing. A WINTER WREN also gave a single song phrase, but nothing thereafter.
Up on Skyline Rd I stopped at the Peaks, about 2 miles north of the Black Rd intersection, where I had 2 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES calling. A
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER was singing here as well, and I mention it because I think they may have bred here in the past.
In the area of Charcoal Rd I had a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER singing.
On Friday, 6 Apr 07, I drove up Gilroy Hot Springs Rd. At its intersection with Canada Rd I had a pair of LAWRENCES GOLDFINCHES in the pines at the
fire station. A pair of WOOD DUCKS flushed from Coyote Creek and at least 3 BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS were singing along the road towards the Henry Coe Park entrance.
