[SBB] Ed Levin Park - 4/6/07

All,

Over lunch today 4/6/07, I headed up to Ed Levin Park, looking for
hummingbirds. The parking area near the Spring Valley picnic area had at
least one adult male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD, along with female and immature
male SELASPHORUS HUMMINGBIRDS. Three to four WESTERN KINGBIRDS were
between here and the start of the Spring Valley Trail just up the road.
Large flocks of vocal CEDAR WAXWINGS and AMERICAN GOLDFINCHES were
feeding in the trees. An OSPREY and an adult GOLDEN EAGLE flew overhead
to the northeast.

At least one more adult male RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD was at the south end of
the eucalyptus grove at the dog park north of Sandy Wool Lake and a pair
of LAWRENCE'S GOLDFINCHES was atop a nearby oak. A KILLDEER nest with
four eggs was also here, and a CASPIAN TERN was foraging over Sandy Wool
Lake.

Lingering birds included YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS and at least one
THAYER'S GULL with the circling gull flocks overhead.

An adult BALD EAGLE was still incubating on the nest opposite mile
marker 0308 along Calaveras Road west of the reservoir.
