This morning, 3 Oct 06, I stopped by the Guadalupe River Trail again, just north of Blossom Hill Road and east of Almaden Xway. Birders that eventually showed up here included Frank Vanslager, Janna Pauser and her friend Joan, Ann Verdi, and Peggy Don. Over an hour and a half period, from 10:00 til 11:30, the TENNESSEE WARBLER made sporadic appearances, always with its ORANGE-CROWNED friend. Though it could be uncooperative at times, we all got good looks at this bird, especially at the end, when Frank, Peggy, and I had binocular-filling views from 20 feet away for a few minutes of time. This bird will look very similar to the Orange-crowned that it accompanies, with the exception of the pure white undertail coverts and vent area. Also, the green upperparts are a little brighter, without the gray tones that the OCWA has.
Also present here are 2 CHIPPING SPARROWS, one being slightly paler than the other. These birds may look superficially
like Clay-colored Sparrows, especially the paler one, but note the dark lores as the dark eyeline extends forward from the eye to the base of the bill. Also note, when visible, the gray rump that these birds have rather than the buffy rump that a CCSP would show.
Still plenty of YELLOW WARBLERS around and some more ORANGE-CROWNEDS. Frank reported having a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER as well.
