I stopped by Almaden Lake at 1 pm this afternoon. Six Blue-winged Teals were near the gravel sandbar north of the pedestrian bridge. I called Ann Verdi before I left and she later confirmed my birds. Five are females and the sixth a possible juvenile. Dozens of Yellow rumped Warblers, a pair of Wrentits, 4 Nutmeg Mannikins and several Yellow Warblers were also seen at the lake in the short time I was there.
This morning I saw my first fall Wilson's Snipe which flushed from the river channel on the east side of the Santa Clara Valley Water District.
