South Bay Birders,
On 19 September, I reported that my count of 42 wildtype Eurasian
Collared-Doves (plus a variegated pale ECDO and 2 Ringed Turtle-Dove types)
in the vicinity of Middle and Murphy Avenues in San Martin was well above
the 10-15 that I'd been seeing in that area over the previous year. This
past Saturday (30 Sep) I counted 52 wildtype ECDO plus 5 paler
ECDO/turtle-doves. This evening (2 Oct), I counted 76 wildtype ECDO plus at
least 5 paler ECDO/turtle-doves in that general area. I'm not sure where
the new birds are coming from, but such a sudden increase (especially
without ECDO showing up in numbers elsewhere in northern Santa Clara County)
suggests local releases.
I have not been able to refind the White-winged Dove since Mike Rogers and
Mike Mammoser saw it on the 20th.
