Re: [SBB] hummingbird in Gilroy

I just had to add to this post. I spent last Sunday
at Bonfante Gardens. It was my first time there. As
I walked about I could hear various bird calls and
quickly realized these were all recordings. The
speakers were located within the landscaped areas low
to the ground.

I was there for 6 hours and in all that time only
observed a few American Crows one Western Scrub Jay
one Chestnut Backed Chickadee and I did see one Anna's
Hummingbird and there were a few Mallards. I thought
it so odd that such a beautifully landscaped park
adjacent to some great birding habitat had no birds.
We were even stuck on a ride for 30 minutes while the
maintenance crew worked on things and in all that time
- no birds to be seen.

There was sapsucker evidence on many of the trees.
Maybe when the park closes during the off-season the
birds move in.
