This morning, Tuesday, I had a 3 1/2 thrush morning at Charleston Road
Marsh in Mountain View. On the 3rd try, I finally saw the NORTHERN
WATERTHRUSH near the SE corner of the marsh. At about 8:15 it appeared
in the full, low willow, chipping and bobbing. It spent the next 3
minutes going from the tree to the ground underneath, feeding, chipping
and bobbing. Then it flew up the side of the marsh, stopped chipping
and disappeared. (I know it is not a real thrush, that is why it is the
1/2.)
Earlier I had seen a beautiful male VARIED THRUSH first up by the
plywood pile and later as I was leaving, it was perched in the straggly
pine at the SE corner of the marsh. I also had seen 3-4 HERMIT THRUSHes
and quite a few tootling AMERICAN ROBINS.
There was also a nice flock of CEDAR WAXWINGS in the conifers with the
tiny cones on the business-side of the path.
