[SBB] Quicksilver Co. Park McAbee entrance

I hadn't birded in Quicksilver Park for several weeks so this mornings cooler temperatures made it a pleasant hike. As I arrived I watched a bulldozer breaking off fence posts, a painful reminder that the Pierce Ranch is slowly being demolished and subdivided for new homes. It was very quiet from the McAbee entrance going up Mine Hill Trail except for some common woodland species and Wild Turkeys with half grown young. I heard a Black-shouldered Kite's call just before the trail turns west and saw an adult fly to another kite perched in the top of a tree on the ridge. With the sun in my eyes I could see the perched kites head was not white but couldn't make out the color. I waited, and several minutes later the adult returned and again fed the (assumed) juvenile kite.

Many of the Elderberry bushes were already dried up and no Cal. Thrashers were seen or heard. One Blue gray Gnatcatcher was seen along the Guadalupe Trail and one Ash Throated Flycatcher was heard. A few Band tailed Pigeons flew overhead here. As I turned onto the Senador trail, I saw a tiny f. Anna's Hummingbird feeding at newly sprouted acorns where they're attached to the cap. I wonder what she was finding to eat? I'd seen several deer already and when I looked down the hill was surprised to find a wild pig with two tiny black piglets, a rare sight in the park these days. I found a birdy spot back at the start of Mine Hill trail, where a Huttons Vireo, and three or four Wrentits were seen in the brush. A Coopers Hawk was calling from an oak tree upsetting a W. Gray Squirrel. Nuttalls and Acorn the only woodpecker species seen today.
