[SBB] Sunnyvale WPCP and environs

Folks:

This morning, 7/14/2005, I got on my bicycle at the Sunnyvale WPCP and took the trail down along the Lockheed-Martin ponds and went to the last pond and back. I then made a CW circuit of the two main oxidation ponds. On my return I then went over to Salt Pond A4 and made a CCW circuit.

My morning total for GREEN HERONS was an adult and two juveniles, all along the southern edge of the oxidation ponds. A female/immature BUFFLEHEAD was in the Lockheed-Martin Ponds and was missing all of its secondaries on its left wing and the primaries were degraded. It seems likely that this is the same bird seen a number of times earlier in the summer. Duck broods included: three GADWALL, one MALLARD, and two LESSER SCAUP. Rarer ducks without breeding evidence included three NORTHERN SHOVELER and four NORTHERN PINTAIL. No Ruddy Duck broods yet. Three RED-NECKED PHALAROPE were in the West Pond. Salt Pond A4 was pretty quiet.
