[SBB] Juvenile Ruff at Don Edwards NWR Alviso today

Around 1:30 today, at high tide, I was driving in the entrance road at Don Edwards NWR in Alviso, and just after I crossed the R/R tracks, I noticed that the salt pan on the right side of the road, which is usually dry, was flooding.  A bunch of peeps and a greater yellowlegs were hurriedly foraging in the incoming water, and with them stood the juvenile RUFF!  The bird was very busy feeding and at one point it chased off the yellowlegs.  I basically parked in the middle of the road, watching from inside the car, and my hybrid engine shut itself off, at which point the ruff came within a few feet of the road and my car.

I also enjoyed the interaction of a Caspian tern and its youngster on an island in A16 just across from the boardwalk stairs.  The big kid whined incessantly in a high-pitched voice, but the adult wasn't moved by all that begging, at least not while I was there.
