All, The Santa Clara Breeding Bird Atlas has been completed and close to publication! Release date for the final printed books is still a ways off and one very important ingredient is still missing--your SPECIES SPONSORSHIP! I'm looking at the list of available birds right now and finding many lonely species in need a sponsor... Blue-winged Teal, Clark's Grebe, Spotted Sandpiper, White-throated Swift, Pacific-slope Flycatcher, Western Kingbird, Loggerhead Shrike, Cliff Swallow and MANY others are still waiting for your call. Actually, our operators will take your call, but the birds are indeed waiting for your help. To sponsor a species, fill out the form which was included in the most recent Avocet, send it in and be sure to include your top 5 choices just in case the birds you name have been sponsored already. Mail it to SCVAS with your check and your name will appear in the opening pages next to the bird you choose to sponsor. Since many people have already responded, and many more will before October 1, you might consider calling SCVAS to make sure you get the bird you want. I'm happy to say that European Starling, House Sparrow have already been sponsored, but Brown-headed Cowbird still needs your help... SCVAS will be able to give you an up-to-the-minute status of which birds are still available. Have fun, and please help in the effort to get each and every breeding bird species in our county sponsored for the release of the first-ever Santa Clara County Breeding Bird Atlas! |
