[SBB] Alviso birding highlights

This morning Kay Partelow, John Esterl and I started out by the railroad tracks on the EEC entrance road where we saw a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE and heard a WESTERN MEADOWLARK.  We then walked the short distance on the gravel road next to the tracks where we saw STILT SANDPIPER.  A group of VAUX'S SWIFT circled above us.

In the ponds along the entrance road there were lots of RED-NECKED PHALAROPES and few WILSONS PHALAROPES.

On the levy behind the EEC we saw a couple of dozen AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS and half a dozen BROWN PELICANS on the nearby thin island.  There were 2 BLACK SKIMMERS and 4 types of gull on the island:  RING-BILLED, CALIFORNIA, WESTERN, and 1 GLAUCOUS-WINGED (dark eye, huge bill, light mantle and primaries).   The BARN OWL was semi-visible in the nest box.

We drove through town to the marina, where a BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON flew over and we heard a SORA RAIL.  On the bay we saw a CLARK'S GREBE.
