[SBB] Vaux's Swift

The Guadalupe River Trail has been quiet the past three days. Migrant
activity has dropped due to the heat. This morning 27 Vaux's Swifts were
seen over the river channel near the water district. A f. Common
Yellowthroat and 4 Yellow Warblers were also seen today. One Spotted
Sandpiper was found north of the Coleman bridge and two more at the
water district dam.

In Guadalupe Oak Grove Park, Acorn Woodpeckers are still nesting. A
young male has been at the cavity entrance for the past 10 days and
remains in the nest which is unfortunately exposed to the sun. I first
heard the nestling's cries on Aug. 15th. Two immature Coopers Hawks were
chasing each other through the park, and vocal Acorn Woodpeckers are
picking acorns at a rapid pace.

A recent fledgling was seen on the Los Alamitos Creek trail this
evening. I found a downy Spotted Towhee after hearing its calls, and
watched it being fed by an adult. The only migrant seen along the trail
tonight was a Wilson's Warbler.

One f. and one immature Hooded Oriole are still coming to our backyard
feeder. A f. Rufous Hummingbird made a brief appearance a few days ago.
I had my binoculars on her when she fanned her tail.
