Hi all -
I feel the need to comment about my recent corvid
posting. I made a typo as I called the nesting pair of
jays above my head "Stellars" like that of an
outstanding, star performer, which they actually are,
but that's neither here nor there.
In actuality, these jays were named after German
botanist, zoologist, physician, explorer and
naturalist Georg Wilhelm Steller (March 10, 1709 -
November 14, 1746). Also named after him - Steller's
Eider
Steller's Jay, Steller's Sea Cow, Steller's Sea Eagle,
Steller's Sea Lion,
Cryptochiton stelleri - the Gumboot chiton and
Artemisia stelleriana - a species of wormwood.
I so enjoy posting such errors to the entire bird
world because it keeps me humble. (Actually I try and
always include a typo as birders love to look for that
stuff. Its kind of like birding only different.) But
I also get to meet many good intended folks as I
receive lots of emails.
Now I have to go look up Nutthall, let's see, is that
one "t" or two?
Thank goodness its Friday.
Lisa
