All,
This morning (3/29) at Fremont Older OSP Frank Vanslager and I failed
to re-find the Rufous Hummingbird seen yesterday by Roland Kenner and Pat Kenny
(we did however, find a Roland Kenner). There were lots of singing
WARBLING VIREOS, HUTTO'S VIREOS, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLETS, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS,
CALIFORNIA THRASHERS and OAK TITMICE. Other birds included HARRY
WOODPECKER, NORTHERN FLICKER, a HERMIT THRUSH and a TOWNSEND'S
WARBLER. Later at McClellan Ranch Park we had great views of an adult
male HOODED ORIOLE near the fenced-in garden. At Picchetti Ranch we had a
couple different singing male BULLOCK'S ORIOLES and a soaring SHARP-SHINNED
HAWK. We also had a well seen female MYRTLE WARBLER, a couple
male Townsend's Warblers and a few AUDUBON'S WARBLERS on the hill
above the (now dry) lake. During a quick stop at the Stevens Creek
Park Chestnut Picnic Area there was lots of Thrush activity (flying back
and forth across the picnic area from trees on the north side of the creek
to the trees on the southern side of the picnic area) which included Hermit
Thrush, AMERICAN ROBINS and VARIED THRUSH.
Take care,
