I've now finished writing up the trip report from last week's excursion
to Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, and San Mateo counties. Thanks to everyone
here for their suggestions. Sadly I lost two full days of birding when
JetBlue canceled my flight out of New York so I didn't cover nearly as
much ground as I planned. Stevens Creek Park and the American Dipper
will have to wait for next year.
However I did manage 79 total species including 6 life birds. In Santa
Clara I got to Ed Levin County Park and Alum Rock Park for the first
time, which were both very impressive. I just wish I'd had more time.
If you're interested complete trip reports are here:

Or you can just start at http://www.elharo.com/blog/category/birding/
and work your way back.
Notable Santa Clara County birds (for me at least) included Western
Bluebird and Lesser Goldfinch at Ed Levin; Wild Turkey, Steller's Jay,
Dark-eyed (Oregon) Junco and California Towhee at Alum Rock, Northern
Pintail at Donald M. Somers WPCP near Yahoo; an unidentified rail
(Virginia or Clapper) at Harvey Pond; and a Burrowing Owl at the airport.
Once again, thanks to everyone for their help. I'll likely be back in
early May, though I'll probably be focusing a little more northerly in
San Francisco and perhaps Marin County for that trip. Happy Birding!
