Re: [SBB] Arastradero Cooper's nest

The four Cooper's Hawk fledglings can now fly, but they still gather in the nest. When I got there around 6:20pm today (Thursday, June 28), one was eating something in the nest while a second one just watched from behind. Then a third one came and looked like it was trying to feed from the one that that had been eating. A few minutes later, they all flew into the tree to the right, where the fourth one had been all along. My photos are here:

Two of the photos are from last Friday.

Many thanks to the ever-observant Ron Wolf for finding that COOPER'S HAWK
nest -- the sun was on the nest when I got there around 4 today, and it
lasted just past 5.30, views shared with other birders and photographers.
The four nestlings all were visible today, and one of the adults brought in
a prey item. For the photographers, it was a little frustrating; there's a
fine stage for posing, right on the front of the nest, but none of the
birds would go there while the sun was on it, then two of them paraded on
the walkway as soon as it was in shadows. Ah well... I didn't do as well as
Ron, but did manage one picture with the adult and a nestling together.

I was on family vacation in Hawaii last week, the north shore of Kauai, and
some pictures from that trip are at http://www.pbase.com/tgrey/hawaii_2007
