Hi all:
McClellan Ranch has two resident BARN OWLS.
Barbara Banfield, staff naturalist for the City of
Cupertino, reported hearing abundant Barn Owl noise
Wednesday night. I checked the suspect palm tree
yesterday, found an owl superbly well-hidden in the
fronds, and then walked over to the barn to see if the
resident "Barn" owl was there. And it was. Barbara
thought there might be juvenile noises coming out of
the palm trees. I haven't seen or heard confirmation
of juveniles, but we'll be paying a lot more attention
during the coming weeks.
Bushtit noises out of a BUSHTIT nest, the cutest baby
CALIFORNIA QUAIL you'd ever want to see, YELLOW
WARBLER singing at the bridge, and non-stop swooping
of VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS across the meadow are other
ranch highlights from the last two days.
Good Birding,
Bob Power
