I stopped by the nest this morning, and saw both chicks out and about. One
parent came by briefly and fed one of the chicks. Over the course of about 2
hours, about half a dozen neighbors came to ask me what I was looking at -
so be prepared to share if you visit!
A few photos are up at http://www.aworldofbirds.com/thumbnails.php?album=8
(or http://tinyurl.com/2rr3gv if that's not working). It's a brand new
website, not everything's working yet. Please let me know what you think, or
if you find any problems!

I stopped by the nest of Red-Shouldered Hawks in the Sharon Park
neighborhood of Menlo Park. (In a eucalyptus just inside the park along
Klamath, about 60-70 yards uphill from Sharon Park Dr.)
The two chicks are nearly fully grown. One is now making short, unsteady
flights to a couple of adjacent trees. The other one, presumably younger, is
still perching on branches within a few feet of the nest, occasionally
flapping its wings. The adults deliver food every hour or so. It looks like
these chicks may not be there much longer.

I just returned from a long weekend photographing woodpeckers and lots of
other critters at Yuba Pass and Sierra Valley. If anyone who is heading up
there wants more information, contact me off list. Many pix at:
