Yesterday, I stopped by in the late afternoon to check out the golf course
geese. Found them in the far golf course corner (I walked down the path
toward the bay)-4 Greater White Fronted Geese and 2 Snow Geese, 1 immature,
1 adult. Also found 2 Hooded Mergansers in the Geng Road pond. And many
crowned sparrows feeding up in the trees, trying to be flycatchers or
warblers. Rather gawky compared to the Yellow-rumped Warblers.
I continued down to the O'Connor bridge and pond.
On the far shore of creek bank were 20 Cinnamon Teal! About half males, 2
coming into full alt plumage.
Further down the creek towards the Bay were at least 6 more, in the creek
and on both sides of the banks (which I think means both counties).
One was up the creek back towards Geng Road, walking through deep mud. There
was one American Wigeon on the Palo Alto side as well.
Not sure I have ever seen so many Cinnamon Teal in one place in the Bay
Area.
There was also a volunteer photographer from Save the Bay looking for trash
to photograph! He got some nice views of geese and ducks through my scope
instead.
