Re: [SBB] Am. Dipper and Varied Thrush

Thanks for the information. I went to Stevens Creek County Park this morning. Someone else arrived at the Lakeside Picnic Area the same time I did, and he pointed out a Varied Thrush coming down from a tree. I quickly found six more. I also saw three American Robins and one Hermit Thrush. When other people arrived, I moved on to the Chestnut Picnic Area, where I found two Varied Thrushes and one robin.

I'll post pictures tonight.

Hi SBBers,

01/27/07.  I saw 2 AMERICAN DIPPERs (3rd attempt) in upper Stevens Creek
this morning at a well known location.  That is on the the upstream side of
the 3rd bridge on Stevens Canyon Rd passed the Mt. Eden Rd. junction.  I
was able to track the pair all the way passed the 4th bridge and got great
views of them foraging. Yesterday I also watched a foraging WINTER WREN
along the creek about 150 feet upstream from the 3rd bridge.

Returning back down to the Stevens Creek resevoir I stopped at the Lakeside
Picnic Area.  I just stepped out of the birdingmobile and quickly had 6
VARIED THRUSH, 2 AMERICAN ROBINS, 2 OAK TITMICE, and 1 NUTTAL'S WOODPECKER.
These Varied Thrush are truely drive up birds for now. They are foraging in
the leaf litter inside the picnic area and are best seen when no people or
dogs are running around as this morning. They were here yesterday also.
The Lakeside Picnic Area is reached after driving past the dam and the rock
quarry and is on the left.

Same Varied Thrush story at the Chestnut Picnic Area, to the left off the
main Stevens Creek Park entry road. I saw 4 at about noon today as well as
yesterday.  Walk across the metal foot bridge to the picnic area. Check
leaf litter and the grass at the far end past the restrooms or in the trees
if they have been distrubed.
