I've found a nice lunchtime birding walk near work in Santa Clara:
the San Tomas Aquino Creek trail, which runs from Central Expressway
across Mission College Blvd and down towards the Bay (don't know
how far it goes--but it passes the SF 49ers training camp)
Lunchtime walks on Mon and Tues showed masses of cedar
waxwings and robins and YR warblers congregating along the
trail (bathing in the creek), in the trees along Mission College Blvd
at the creek-edge of the General Dynamics parking lot, in the trees
next to the Intel parking garage along Juliette Lane. I saw a nice
variety of species, and had a great time watching the flocks of
robins and waxwings move about. Best birds were buffleheads
in the Great America ponds, next to the rollercoasters (viewable
from the trail)--2 males and a
female.

If you work near Mission College and Great America Parkway, there's an
easy entry point to the trail next to the parking lot for General Dynamics
on Mission College Blvd. You can grab a quick Birding Break on a nice day.
good birding,
Ann Hepenstal
