Re: [SBB] non hummer visitors to hummingbird feeder

Ann,

I have had the exact same species on my hummingbird feeders in Los Altos Hills. I had one chickadee that would get very agitated and alert me to an empty nectar feeder.

Bird behaviour question--do you get non-hummingbird
visitors to your hummingbird feeder?

Last summer, I had hooded orioles feeding from my
hummingbird feeder (it has perches).

In the past several weeks, I've noticed chestnut-backed
chickadees feeding.  They appear to be drinking the nectar,
not picking off ants.  (I even had 2 feeding at once! on 1
occasion)

About 3 minutes ago, I had a yellow-rumped warbler on
the feeder, appearing to drink nectar.

This behaviour is very surprising to me.  Have you heard of
these species drinking nectar?  Anyone else I might
expect to surprise me on that feeder!??

thanks,
Ann Hepenstal
Los Altos
