I found all expected sparrow species this morning 1-16-07 and had one
bonus sparrow. Lark Sparrow, 25 seen along Fortini Rd. White crowned Sp. 30+ Golden crowned Sp. 15 Lincolns Sp. 7 These three species seen along Fortini Rd.& Stile Ranch trailhead Rufous crowned Sp. 5 on Stile Ranch trail, 2 at gate Fox Sp. 1 at Stile Ranch trailhead The bonus sparrow was a tan-striped White throated Sparrow on the Virl Norton trail in Quicksilver Co. Park. I believe its the same WTSP I first saw on Nov. 14, still associating with Dark eyed Juncos and several Golden crowned Sparrows. Other notable birds were Red breasted Sapsucker and Yellow billed Magpie on Hernandez property on San Vicente. Six Varied Thrush, Wrentit, Cal. Thrasher and Harry Woodpecker in Quicksilver at the Mockingbird Hill entrance. On the way home a large bobcat crossed Harry Road right in front of my car. Two f. Purple Finch arrived two days ago and perched in a Valley Oak tree in my backyard. I expect them to stay until breeding season as they have in the past. Janna Pauser Almaden Valley |
