I had one precious hour of daylight to search for rarities. I headed for
Alviso, where I saw the Ruff along the entrance road, just south of the new
parking lot near the turn in the road. I also saw a Burrowing Owl on its
usual hill just north of the RR tracks, and a Barn Owl in the box at the
EEC. I then motored over to Palo Alto and Byxbee Park, to be in place at
dusk. I saw a Peregrine Falcon, two Red-tailed Hawks, and two Northern
Harriers. As darkness fell, one of the Harriers headed west over the
landfill, and a Short-eared Owl arose to challenge its air-rights. Not the
best look, but it was too cold to wait for a better one!
Two Peregrine Falcons on City Hall in downtown San Jose this morning at
about 7:15.
