All,
I tried again to find the Ruff along the EEC entrance road in Alviso
over lunch today 1/8/07, and again had no luck. But scoping from the EEC
turned up a second-winter GLAUCOUS GULL on the second island in pond
A16. Walking out to that island resulted in great looks at this bird.
Its eyes are still mostly dark, but the black in the bill is fading and
the tip of the bill is now pink. The plumage is splotchy, with some pure
chalk white feathers and some feathers with pale tan marbling/barring.
There was no gray in the mantle, so this may be a different bird from
that reported by Bob Reiling this past weekend.
Also roosting on the second island were 7 ALEUTIAN CACKLING GEESE -
behind the island was a male EURASIAN WIGEON.
At the EEC were a YELLOW WARBLER and 5 TREE SWALLOWS.
