Hi all! Yesterday, January 6, 2007, I completed a rarities
chase. Total species seen for the day was 93 and wasn’t even trying
for number of species! Highlights were: Yellow-bellied Sapsucker (adult male) at Ed Levin in the
Tamarisks Red-breasted Sapsuckers (2 adult males at same location) Mew Gull (35 at State and Spreckles) Dunlin (10+ seen at State and Spreckles) Orange-crowned Warbler (at EEC) Cackling Geese (2 at EEC) Cooper’s Hawk eating at White-crowned Sparrow (at
Shoreline Golf Course) Merlin (at Shoreline Golf Course) Eurasian Widgeon (in ponds across from Shoreline Golf
Course) Horned Grebe (2 in Eared Grebe (several in Barrow’s Goldeneye (pair seen at close range of 30’
in Greater Yellowlegs (2 at Black Skimmers (many on island at Lesser Yellowlegs (several at Clapper Rail (feeding with entire neck and upper body in one
