[SBB] Cattle Egret, Short-eared Owl

After our Snowy Plover survey today, 3 Feb 07, I left Mike Rogers and headed up to the Palo Alto Baylands, where I puttered around for a while before ending up at the Duck Pond. Here I met Jack Cole and we eventually worked our way to the palm trees behind the pond. After some minutes Al Eisner showed up and in no time the CATTLE EGRET flew into the trees for us (4:30 pm). We then moved to Byxbee Park and staked out a spot on the hillside overlooking the Flood Control Basin. One of the SHORT-EARED OWLS made an appearance across the marsh, but disappeared after traversing it. I didn't see this bird again before leaving, but left some other birders with a BARN OWL working the area.
