[SBB] New Chicago Marsh & EEC -- no rarities today

I spent some time mid-morning (with many other birders and photographers)
looking for the Baird's Sandpiper in the New Chicago Marsh and the entrance
road to EEC. No luck when I left around 1 or 1:30pm.

New Chicago Marsh:
Wilson's Phalaropes and Red-necked Phalaropes, Western and Least Sandpipers.
Several Lesser Yellowlegs, 10+ Greater Yellowlegs.

EEC entrance and some of pond A16:
More phalaropes, mainly Red-necked, attracting the photographers
6 Black Skimmers, including 2 chicks that poked their adult enough to stick
their heads out on the first island (just saw 2 adults on island #2)
Hundreds of American White Pelicans on the islands
Also 100+ Forster's Terns -- nice to see since they have disappeared this
year from Radio Rd in Redwood Shores
3 Bonaparte Gulls

On my way I found an empidonax flycatcher high in the Barn Owl trees (no owl
seen) -- long and wide bill, yellow from underneath; big head; tail seemed
short; never could see whether it had eye ring or wing bars. Its belly was
yellow green but worn looking.

Two Ring-necked Pheasants crossed my path -- an immature male (or do they go
into eclipse?) and a female.

On Disk Drive, a Burrowing Owl out hunting in the mowed short grass. Several
other birders stopped to watch.

Good birding,

Kris Olson, Menlo Park
