All,
At around noon today (8/17) Mike Mammoser, Frank Vanslager and I had an
adult PECTORAL SANDPIPER in the pond near the boardwalk for the Environmental
Education Center. It was still there when we left at about 12:30.
Earlier Frank and I had a juvenile SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER in a pond on the
south side of the railroad tracks a couple hundred yards short of its
junction with the tracks heading into Alviso. A SNOWY PLOVER
continues in the far northeastern corner of the marsh. No Black
Terns today but the BLACK SKIMMERS on the second island in Salt Pond A16
still has two young despite the fact that the island was loaded with gulls (two
or three gulls that got too close were chased off as we watched). We also
noted that the pair of Black Skimmers on the first island had at least one chick
that was fed a small fish as we watched (two small fish caught on the east, down
wind, side of the island moments before).
Take care,
