[SBB] Black ternS

On Saturday morning around 10:15, shortly after I met Frank VanSlager at salt pond A16 in Alviso, TWO black terns were seen foraging together around the third island out from the EEC. They would work their way slowly to the left, occasionally diving and displaying their distinctive flight, and then more rapidly fly toward the second island and repeat the process.
Twice one of them landing on distant pilings, allowing good looks through Frank's questar and comparisons with nearby Forsters terns in various plumages. They were still there a half hour later.

In the last pond before the railroad tracks were four snowy plovers, and earlier Frank saw at least six. There are still plenty of phalaropes around, but they don't mix and match much. The majority of the Wilsons were along the track ponds, and the red necks were along the frontage road and the channel out from the EEC.

A black skimmer chick emerged briefly from under a parent on the second island.

The barn owl remains in the nest box.
