Good afternoon all....
I just got back from Vasona......and I could see two chicks in Nest
2....there are seven active nests with six having chicks and one in the egg
laying stage. The chicks are aged from 2 days to 10 days old....lots of
noise coming from them.
Yesterday was a sad day for me at the colony. I had a nestling on the
ground. Couldn't have been dead long. It was about 4 days old. It's
bill was only one inch long....and it's overall size was approx. 7 3/4 inches
long. It weighed about 2 1/4 ounces. Overall development was
amazing. It's pectinating toe was perfect as was the sole of the feet being
yellow. It's foot was a mere 1 1/4 inches long. Each toes was had a
perfectly formed nail. The bird had an unbelievable order....making me
wonder if it died in the nest and was then thrown out...
Okay, should be able to get a count soon in the other nests.
Wishing you all good birding and my best regards,
Linda Sullivan
