This morning, 28 Sep 06, I visited New Chicago Marsh, walking out the railroad tracks that transect the marsh. A PECTORAL SANDPIPER was in the first pond east of the tracks on the way out, providing great views. Further out, where the tracks bend, I found "gimpy" RUFF foraging close to the tracks. With the exception of a "wash" of buff on the foreneck, this bird has virtually molted into basic plumage. There were 3 SNOWY PLOVERS in the State and Spreckles pond - 2 looked to be adult and 1 an immature. There were also at least 4 LESSER YELLOWLEGS still around the area.
