This morning 2 or 3 RED SHOULDERED HAWKS were
calling along Uvas Creek SW of Gilroy. A BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT HERON flew
20-30 feet above ground when one of the RSHAWKS approached from behind, flying
fast, and pounced on it. The BCNH squawked and circled around as if
looking to see what had happened.
I had never seen this before when birds weren't
protecting nests.
