All,
This morning Frank Vanslager and I first went to the Gilroy Water treatment
Facility where we found that because of a lowering of the water
table (thru increased agricultural use) and an increase in
the use of used (gray?) water only one slag pond had water in it and
it had no "waterbirds." Best birds were an adult PRAIRIE FALCON (made a
pass at some KILLDEER and then perched on a power pole with burn damage located
northeast of the office), several BLUE-WINGED TEAL (at least four adult males
perched on the wooden barrier between the two ponds on the left as you enter the
facility), a couple WILSON'S SNIPE (on the edge of these ponds), several
CINNAMON TEAL and at least one partial eclipse male NORTHERN SHOVELER looking
like a big male Blue-winged Teal. We then went to and all over Kelly Park
in an unsuccessful search for Eurasian Collared-Doves. I could have
been the wrong time of day or the wrong time of the year but we couldn't
even find MODOs.
Take care,
Bob Reiling
