[SBB] Rancho San Antonio and Windy Hill Sausal Pond

On Karen DeMello and Kay Partelow's early morning open space hike on
Saturday at Rancho San Antonio, the following were observed or heard:

California Towhee
California Thrasher eating elderberries at the top of the tree
White-breasted Nuthatch
Dark-eyed Junco
Acorn Woodpecker
Nuttall's Woodpecker
Song Sparrow
California Quail, pair with large chicks with little starter
topknots, foraging in the vegetable garden
Cooper's Hawk, discovered as Quails flushed from the top of a tree
and Jays called attention to it
Red-tailed Hawk
Red-shouldered Hawk, 2 juveniles sitting together
Western Scrub Jay
Steller's Jay
Western Screech Owl, asleep and looking like part of the bark, in the
previously reported tree

On the Mora Trail:

Anna's Hummingbird, 2 who were playfully flying around (flapping
"slowly" for hummingbirds)
Wild Turkey, 20 in 3 groups of 6 or 7, some foraging along with deer
White-tailed Kite, 1 wagging tail atop a tree, 1 flying
Band-tailed Pigeon
Western Bluebird
Black Phoebe
House Finch

There was also a pile of probably chicken feathers, tobacco brown
with black speckles, some of which had been clipped through the quill
by a predator's teeth.
As we neared the parking lot, a gopher poked his head out of his hole
a few times.

Kay and I returned to Sausal Pond to get a better look at the Wood
Ducks. One was sitting between two Mallards on the near log on the
right. When the Mallards decided to go for a swim, the Wood Duck
followed and swam to the opposite side of the pond. The second Wood
Duck flew in for a water landing, and had some large thing in its
bill. A fish? No, as it maneuvered it for swallowing, there were legs
flailing--a smaller Bullfrog!

We also heard the Red-shouldered Hawk earlier, and saw one Green
Heron disappearing into the branches hanging over the water.
