On Saturday, 28 Oct 06, I stopped by the Coyote Creek Field Station, where I mainly birded the overflow channel. Interesting highlights include a COMMON POORWILL that flushed from the weedy overflow channel. I tried to refind this bird after each flight, flushing it 2 more times, but it eventually disappeared into the new reveg area. Also, at the south end of the new reveg, I had a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER. This bird was sporting a shiny new band on its left leg. A check of the board showed a bird being newly banded on the 21st, a week prior to this day, but likely the same bird. While looking at a pair of RED-TAILED HAWKS circling overhead, I had a flock of 9 WHITE-THROATED SWIFTS fly through the view. A SAY'S PHOEBE was working the fenceline along the levee.
The waterbird pond has water in it and was entertaining many NORTHERN SHOVELERS and BLACK-NECKED STILTS. There were also CINNAMON TEAL, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, NORTHERN PINTAIL, a
couple hundred DOWITCHERS, and other assorted species.
