This morning (Fri, Oct 6) I visited the Santa Clara Valley Water District (SCVWD) at Almaden Expy & Coleman and have a few birds to report.
An adult male BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER was seen working through the sycamores at the northeastern end of the main pond. This may be the same BTGW as reported over the past week or so. Another Black-throated Gray Warbler was also seen in a small oak near the sycamores - this bird was a female-type/immature and did not have the prominent black throat patch as the adult male.
Other birds of interest included a SORA in the reeds bordering the river channel, a COMMON MOORHEN in the southeastern corner of the main pond, and a single VAUX'S SWIFT overhead.
Yesterday afternoon (Thurs, Oct 5) I checked out the riparian area along the Guadalupe River Trail between Blossom Hill Rd and the Hwy 85 overpass. The young CHIPPING SPARROW was seen in the brush near the white rock conduit, but I did not refind the Tennessee Warbler.
