At least 2 Varied Thrushes were calling before
sunrise near Monte Bello's Gate 5 pond this morning, 10/4/2006. It was
thrush weather, with the clouds gathering before the first "storm" of fall. Like
Mike Mammoser, I felt a lot of possibilities in the air, but didn't see much in
the hour I had available. I did hear a Red-breasted Nuthatch, and a couple
of Double-crested Cormorant flyovers were unusual for Monte Bello.
Leaving Hidden Villa yesterday I saw a Say's Phoebe
in the big field near the entrance, just a second record for the property as far
as I know. So I was not too surprised when I stopped in at MB05 on my
way home and found one there too (my first for the location). Not a species I
think of as having migration waves, but who knows? There were two Bobcats
present at the pond last evening, also.
