Hi all:
I spent some time in San Antonio Valley this
afternoon. After last year's disappearance (well, I
got skunked twice) of Lewis's Woodpeckers I was
delighted to have them seemingly flying from every
other tree. there were at least 7 actively hawking in
the half mile south of Del Puerto Canyon Rd. / San
Antonio Valley Rd. junction, along San Antonio Valley
Rd. I identified only adults, but the birds were
active enough that not all of them allowed careful
study. there may have been a juvenile or two.
Out-of-county Lawrence's Goldfinches at Frank Raines
Park kept me from searching diligently for Lawrence's
Goldfinches around the Junction House Cafe or the Fire
station. One male Phainopepla was seen approx. 1/2
mile north of the San Antonio Road / Del Puerto Cyn.
Rd intersection along San Antonio Rd. (there was
probably an easier way of saying that).
Good birding,
Bob Power
