Late this morning, 4 Oct 06, I went up to Montebello OSP to look for migrating raptors. My reward for this trip was a single flyover RED CROSSBILL heading towards the northwest. Also flying north was a WESTERN KINGBIRD.
As for raptors, almost all - 5 RED-TAILED HAWKS, a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, an immature COOPER'S HAWK, a NORTHERN HARRIER, a WHITE-TAILED KITE, and an AMERICAN KESTREL - seemed to be residents. One immature accipiter, however, came low over the ridge and dropped into the Stevens Canyon heading to the south, flying fast and direct, just as I would expect of a migrant.
