[SBB] Ogier Ponds

I took a walk this afternoon, 9 Nov 06, around the Ogier Ponds near Morgan Hill. An interesting observation was a MERLIN harassing a flock of STARLINGS. It would dash in to frazzle them and eventually caused a few to make a break for it. It made a vertical stoop in an attempt to catch one, but pulled up short about halfway to the ground when it realized it pursued too late. It cruised off towards the north.

An OSPREY was eating a fish at the top of a telephone pole, and 3-4 WHITE-TAILED KITES were perching cooperatively.

On the way back I stopped at the Coyote Creek Golf Club and found a flock of 27 CACKLING GEESE. This is a larger concentration than I can remember seeing in the county. These birds all looked to be minima.
